About the music:
Astor Piazzolla: Whisky, Arr: S. Assad/rev. Frevo
The argentinian bandoneonist and composer Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) has gained world fame for his tango compositions. From young age he played the bandoneon in
the cabarets of Buenos Aires, and went on to study composition with Alberto Ginastera and Nadia Boulanger. Whisky is from 'Suite Troileana' which was composed in 1975.
Egberto Gismonti: Aqua e Vinho, Arr: Frevo
Brazilian Egberto Gismonti (1947-) is a pianist and guitarist who also studied composition with Nadia Boulanger. He has released a number of records on the label ECM and collaborated with jazz-musicians like Jan Garbarek and Charlie Haden.
Our arrangement of Aqua e Vinho is based on his piano performance on the 1986 album 'Alma'. We have tried our best to recreate Gismontis beautiful improvisation.
Manuel de Falla - La Vida Breve, Arr: Pujol
Manuel de Falla (1876-1946) was maybe the greatest Spanish composer of the 20th century, continuing the musical inheritance of his elder contemporaries, Albeniz and Granados. His music can be described as a mixture of Spanish traditional music and the teqhniques of the great European tradition. La vida breve is from the one-act opera with the same title, written in 1904
