Frevo - biography

The Norwegian guitarduo Frevo consists of classical guitar-players Pål Granum and Andreas Karlsen. They started playing together in 1995 and have cooperated closely as a guitar-duo for more than ten years. During this period they have worked with most of the repertoire available for two guitars in addition to extensive work on transcriptions of suitable music for two guitars.

In desember of 2002, the duo released their first CD ‘Whisky’ with music by composers Astor Piazzolla, Isaac Albeniz, Manuel de Falla and Egberto Gismonti. The CD received excellent reviews in the national media and international guitar-publications.

In 2004 the duo finished as the first guitar-duo to do diploma-level chamber-music studies at the Norwegian State Academy of Music with professors Sven Lundestad and Erik Stenstadvold. They also spent a year as exchange students in Sweden, studying with professor Göran Söllscher and Gunnar Spjut.

The guitar-duo has held a vast number of concerts in Norway and the Nordic countries, always met with enthusiasm for their precise playing and energic interpretations. They have appeared on many music-festivals and on national tv and radio. Frevo has also made concerts in a number of European countries and in South-America and Mongolia. They have also premiered dedicated works by Norwegian composers.
